She was born June 19, 1932, in Lawrence, the daughter of Charles and Melvia Chenoweth Winchell. A homemaker, she had lived in Topeka since moving from Lawrence in 1973.
She married Roy V. Ray in 1949 in Lawrence. They divorced.
Survivors include her mother, Melvia Winchell, Lawrence; her companion, Richard Howerton, Topeka; a son, Stanley Ray, Topeka; two daughters, Janet Jimenez and Donna Tibbits, both of Lawrence; a brother, Walter Winchell, Topeka; three sisters, Rose Bagby, Denison, Carol Hale, Topeka, and Marilyn Noble, Oskaloosa; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
