Lula Chambers Thompson, 84, of Oneida, passed away suddenly at the LaFollette Hospital on Saturday, March 6, 1993.
She was the daughter of the late John M. Chambers and the late Ruthie Duncan Chambers and was also preceded in death by her husband, Byrd Thompson; seven brothers, Adam, Ernest, Sylvester (Bud), Hurstle, Milford, Gerald, and Sinclair Chambers; five sisters, Lillie, Goldie, Helen, Clettie, and Sylvia Chambers; and her step-mother, Ella Massengale Chambers.
She was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church.
Mrs. Thompson is survived by two special nieces, which she raised, Ruby West and husband, Ernest of Zephryhills, Fla., and Nell Claborn and husband Arley of Oneida, with whom she made her home; four grandchildren, Larry West and wife, Sharolette, of Sequatchie, Tenn., Johnny West and wife Christeen of Zephryhills, Fla., Melva Jeffers and husband Jeff of Tacoma, Wash., and Luann Reed of Oneida; two sisters, Pearl Carson and husband Jim of Oneida, and Vertie Jenkins and husband Bill of Culpepper, Va.; three brothers, Opal Chambers and wife Rreta and Bobby Chambers and wife Ann all of Oneida, and Hoyal Chambers and wife Millie of Guston, KY.; one step-daughter, Rema Dalton and husband John of Chesteron, Ind.; one step-grandson, Starett Lee Dalton and wife Nancy of Calif.; nine great-grandchildren; several other nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, March 9, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Jones and Son Funeral Home. Burial was in the Hazel valley Cemetery. Jones and Son Funeral Home of Oneida was in charge of the arrangements.
