James "Stub" Ammons, age 80, of Ellenboro, passed away Friday, October 7, 2022 at his residence.

James was born Wednesday, July 22, 1942 in Rutherford County to the late Arthur Kermit Ammons and Annie Sue Ferguson Ammons. He was a graduate of ASI (Union Mills) High School, class of 1959 and attended Isothermal Community College. He worked as a maintenance supervisor for ICC for several years and also as an electrician for Union Carbide, Cone Mills and Delta Electric. James was an avid gardener and fisherman. He attended High Shoal Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Kermit Wayne "Buck" Ammons, Richard Ammons and a sister, Carol Thompson.

Left to cherish fond memories are his wife of nineteen years, Betty Martin Ammons; daughter, Amy Marie Metcalf (Roger) of Union Mills; son, Richard Ammons of Spindale; stepchildren, Barbara Turner of Gaffney, Debra Hughey (Roger) of Gaffney, Kelly Peeler of Spartanburg, Kevin Martin of Gaffney; two sisters, Carrie Jane Ammons of Spindale and Brenda Mills (Gary) of the Oakland Community. He is also survived by numerous grand and great grandchildren and his fur babies, Spanky and Maggie.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Monday, October 10, 2022 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Shane Adkins officiating. Interment will follow in the Centennial Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
