"Augie" (as he was fondly called) was a life time member of V.F.W. in Pana, Illinois, and a member of the AM VETS Post No. 61 in Rockville, Parke County, Indiana. Augie was a Veteran Corporal of the U.S. Army in World War II with a Purple Heart, Ex-POW, and a Bronze Star Medal. One of the things that Augie bragged about often was not having seen a doctor for most of his years and not having to take any medications even though he smoked a pipe nearly every day while sitting on his front porch enjoying life. He also enjoyed his membership in the Montezuma Fish and Game Club. He lived in Montezuma and owned a home there with his significant other friend Evelyn Elkins Lunog. Augie was a friend of the Elkins Family. He had one surviving nephew, Brian Ages; and one niece, Karen McNaughton. Augie is buried next to Evelyn Elkins Merson Lunog at Wolf Creek Cemetery.
