Jesse T. Barker Captain US Navy, Retired. Feb 1, 1916- Feb 1, 2008 Former Resident of Castro Valley Jesse Theron Barker, known by friends as Jesse or Terry, was a man of extraordinary accomplishments during his long life of service to his country and fellow man. Born to Jesse Benson and Archa Cannon Barker in Newton, Utah he was raised on the family farm. He attended Utah State University for 2 years and earned his Civilian Pilots license before his commission in the US Navy in 1941. As a dive bomber and fighter pilot he saw extensive action in the South Pacific throughout WWII and Korea. A highly-decorated veteran, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with Star, Air Medal with 7 Stars and Presidential Unit Citation with 3 stars, as well as the peacetime Meritorious Service Medal earned for his many contributions and achievements during his 33 year Naval Career. He flew 117 different models of naval aircraft, earning him a level of achievement matched by few. His education included a year at USC; he received his BA from SDSU. Jess served in many capacities at the LDS church until his health declined. He passed away on his 92nd birthday with the knowledge he was dearly loved. His wife of 59 years, Betty Lee Perry, died in 2004. He is survived by three daughters and their families: Barbara Albert of Bellevue, WA; Betty Bancalari of Livermore, CA and Beverly Barker of Danville, CA. Services to be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 3900 Seven Hills Rd at 1200pm Feb 9th. Internment in Logan, Utah with military honors. Donations suggested to Hope Hospice, 6500 Dublin Blvd. Suite 100, Dublin CA 94568; we thank them for their care and support.
