Barbara Slagle, 88, of West Bloomfield, Michigan, passed away peacefully into the presence of her Savior on October 6, 2022. Barbara was born June 5, 1934 in Detroit, Michigan to James and Alma Powell who preceded her in death. Barbara graduated from Mackenzie High School in Detroit and did secretarial work at a lumber yard for a few years before her marriage.

In 1954, Barbara married Daniel Slagle and they were married 55 years before he predeceased her in 2009. Together, they built a home on Cass Lake in West Bloomfield where they raised their three sons, Bob, Don, and Steve. Barb and Dan soon became members of the newly formed Union Lake Baptist Church where they attended and served for many years. Barb sang in the choir and taught 6th Grade Girls' Sunday School class for many, many years. She also served on the church's missions committee and helped to organize the church's first library. Barb was an avid reader. Barb was also an Avon lady for 34 years. For her, the best part of the job was visiting people in their homes, especially her elderly customers.

Barb enjoyed supporting her sons and later, their families, in their activities. She loved going to their concerts, races, birthday celebrations, and graduations. Barb also loved to travel and took many trips to California and Indiana as well as a 25th wedding anniversary trip to Grand Cayman and an Alaskan cruise with her good friend, Shirley. Gardening was another passion of Barb's. She especially loved growing flowers and admiring them wherever she traveled.

Barbara is survived by her sons, Bob (Nanci) of Brownsburg, Indiana, Don (Laura) of Fresno, California, and Steve (Tracy) of West Bloomfield, Michigan. She also leaves behind 7 grandchildren whom she loved and remembered in so many special ways: Katherine Cole of Indianapolis, Indiana, Becky (Brian) Lee of Denver, Colorado, Adam (Jocelyn) Slagle of Houston, Texas, Jennifer (Isaac) Nutter of Toney, Alabama, David Slagle (Nichole Gruenemay) of Fresno, California, Amber Slagle of Mooresville, North Carolina, and Austin Slagle (Mikayla Rappuhn) of West Bloomfield, Michigan. She also leaves her only sibling, Jim (Miriam), to cherish her memory as well as her sister-in-law, Sarah Arnold, niece, Christie Powell, and nephews, David (Michelle) Powell, Chris Arnold (Melina O'Grady), and Jonathan (Erin) Arnold.

Visitation will be Monday, October 17, 2022 from 3:00 - 5:00 pm at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home at 340 N. Pontiac Trail in Walled Lake, Michigan followed by the funeral at 5:00 pm. A private burial will take place Tuesday, October 18th at Pine Lake Cemetery in West Bloomfield. The family requests that memorial gifts be directed to either of Barb's favorite mission organizations, Samaritan's Purse (PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607) and OMF International (for Brian & Becky Lee - 10 West Dry Creek Circle, Littleton, CO 80120).
