Harold Edward Jurgens, 91, of Ashland, IL died Thursday, Oct. 20, 2022, at his home.

He was born Dec. 15, 1930, to William Edward and Emma Clara (Leinberger) Jurgens in his parents' rural Ashland, IL home in Cass County. He married Florence M. Wallner on Aug. 11, 1956, in Farmingdale and she preceded him in death on Sept. 20, 1997. He then married Sandra J. Broers on Feb. 12, 2000, in Springfield and she survives.

Mr. Jurgens was a 1948 graduate of Harris High School in Petersburg. He was then drafted into the U.S. Army, serving from March 11, 1953-March 3, 1955, and was stationed in Germany where he worked in the base postal unit. After his discharge he began a long career farming in the Ashland area. He was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Pleasant Plains, where he served in many capacities. He served as a Board Member for the Ashland State Bank/West Central Bank (31 years), the Ashland School District, and the Cass-Morgan Farm Bureau. He and his brother Walter were founding members of L.G. Co-Op as well as the Pork Producers Association. They also were dealers with three different Ag Seed companies, P.A.G., Cargill, and Asgrow. Harold was a member of the Ashland American Legion Post #498, Ashland V.F.W. Post #3546, Ashland Lions Club, the Rural Youth Association, and the Third Saturday Night Group.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; two sisters, Helen Jurgens and Dorothy Jurgens; and one brother, Walter William Jurgens.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2022, at Zion Lutheran Church in Pleasant Plains, with burial in Ashland Cemetery.
