Hall of Fame Professional Football Player. For fourteen-seasons (1973 to 1986), he played at the punter position in the National Football League with the Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders. Born William Ray Guy, he attended Thomson High School in Georgia and played collegiate football at Southern Mississippi. While with the Golden Eagles, he achieved All-American honors and excelled at the kicker, punter, defensive back and quarterback positions, establishing himself as one of the program's all greats. Selected by the Oakland Raiders as the 23rd overall pick during the 1973 NFL Draft (first punter ever selected during the first round), he totaled 207 career regular season games. He was a contributor to three Super Bowl championship teams with the Raiders (1977, 1981 and 1984) and individually, he achieved Pro-Bowl honors seven-times and All-Pro status three-times. Guy was named to the 1970s NFL All-Decade Team. He was inducted into the National College Football Hall of Fame in 2004 and was enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2014. To date, Guy is the only pure punter in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Following his football career, he was involved in charitable causes.
