Joseph Starling Blake was the son of John Barnabas Blake and Harriet Garson. He was baptized at Middlegate Congregational Church, Great Yarmouth on 26 March 1818. He married Esther Steff on 6 July 1845 at St Mary Redgrave with Botesdale, Hartismere, Suffolk. They had 11 children. He was a linen draper. then Auctioneer Estate Agent and Accountant.
