Miss Adaline Stevens died at 1:30 o'clock this morning of La Grippe at the residence of her niece, Mrs. Fred G. Schmitt, East Monroe street, aged 84 years. She was born in Springfield, Vt., and came to this county with her widowed mother in 1835, they settling in Williamsville.
Her mother died forty years ago, and Miss Stevens resided on her farm near Williamsville until four years ago, when she sold her farm and removed to this city and resided with her niece, Mrs. Schmitt. She reared her two nieces, Mrs. Schmitt, and Mrs. James Plowman of Taylorville, and Mr. Don Stevens, of this city.
She is survived by a brother, Mr. Levi Stevens, who is the owner of "Island Number Ten" on the Mississippi river, near the Tennessee shore, which became famous during the civil war, and on which island he resides. Miss Stevens was a kind and gracious lady, and was greatly loved.

Miss Stevens was one of the oldest settlers of Sangamon county. Her grandfather, John Stevens, was a colonel under Gen. Washington in the revolutionary war, and her father a major in the war of 1812.
