John Astley, husbandman of Blackburne - Burial: 21 May 1700 Blackburn, St Mary

John was the eldest son and heir, born before his younger brother, Richard who matches the 30 Jul 1615 Blackburn baptism. There were later baptisms for the younger sisters named in the grandfather's will. Like John, the eldest sister, Jennet named in the grandfather's will has no baptism to match, placing their births around 1610-1614.

Note: His father was buried as George Astley snr - John's son, George was the younger George Astley at that time, inheriting the family property named as Astley Yate, later known as Astley Gate

John made his mark on his will 30 Mar 1699 as a yeoman of Blackburn. He named his wife, Ann. His son, James Astley and his brother, Thomas Astley were named as his executors. He also named his grandchildren George and John Astley, who match as the sons of his deceased son, George. From his father's will, the brother, Thomas was his illegitimate half-brother, named in his father's will as his illegitimate son, Thomas Astley, alias Edleston.

The probate administration granted Jun 1700, not to his son, James as named in his will but to his son, Henry Astley (who was named in the will of John's father) and Henry Dale. The same two were also granted the tuition probate for the grandsons, George and John in the same year.

The father, George made his mark 26 Feb 1680 on his will as a hubandman of Astley Yate, Blackburn. He referred to the indentures made with Thomas Barton of Smithills for his property in 1689 and an earlier made by his father in 1650, naming his father as John Astley, deceased. George named his eldest son, John Astley, his nephew, Richard Astley and his grandsons, George and Henry Astley. He also named his illegitimate son, Thomas Astley, alias Eddleston.

The probate originals for John's grandfather, John Astley are available on Ancestry as they were registered in London. His 10 Dec 1658 will as yeoman of Blackburn named his son, George, who was left the property. He also named another son, Richard Astley as his executor and his daughter, Ellen. These match as the surviving children name in the 6 Nov 1623 will of his own father, George Astley.
