Son of Volney L. & Athalene (Reed) Doty

Corp., 3rd Wisconsin Inf., Co. H. in the Civil War

from the Frederick Daily News, Oct. 22, 1915:
Abner Delos Doty, a well known retired farmer and leather manufacturer of Jefferson, died suddenly at his home shortly before five o'clock last evening, aged nearly seventy-four years. Although he had not been in good health for some time, Mr. Doty did not especially complain yesterday and the news of his death came as a surprise. Mrs. Doty had told him to go upstairs and lie down. This he did and was found dead later on his bed.
Mr. Doty was born in Little Falls, N.Y., December 12, 1842. He later went to Wisconsin, where his parents died. He enlisted in the Union Army and fought in all the battles in which the Army of the Potomac engaged, being wounded once. Soon after the close of the War, Mr. Doty came to this county and engaged in the harness business at Jefferson. In 1865 he was married to Miss Emily J. Porter, of Knoxville. Mr. Doty was a staunch Republican.
Besides his wife he is survived by the following children: E.W. Doty, Baltimore; Rev. Robert Doty, Ohio; Guy Doty, Pittsburgh, Pa.; Walter and William Doty, Jefferson; Mrs. Randolph [Lettie] Grove, Waynesboro, Pa.; Mrs. Edgar Feaster, Walkersville; Mrs. Samuel [Margaret] Fetzer, Cleveland, O.; Mrs. Claude [Mary] Hargett, near Frederick, and Mrs. Abram Hemp, Jefferson.
The funeral will take place on Sunday afternoon. Services will be held in St. Paul's Lutheran church and interment in St. Paul's cemetery [note-error]. M.R. Etchison is the funeral director.
