To the memory of Cornelius McDermott, Clonreddan this cross is erected by grateful pupils brother teachers and admiring friends to perpetuate his memory and to recall to the minds of future generations some of the many services he rendered to popular education The great ambition of his teaching career was to raise the moral, social and intellectual status of the youth of this parish and of numbers who flocked from the adjoining and other parishes to partake of the knowledge varied and profound which he for 48 years as principal teacher of the Cooraclare National School dispensed in no stinted manner May his soul rest in peace.
