She leaves behind a son, Benton Pearson, 25, who resides in Salisbury, North Carolina. Other surviving family members include her parents, Francis Luey, of Logansport, Indiana, and Doris Burns Casassa, of Nashville, Tennessee; a sister, Marsha Luey, of Nashville, Tennessee; and a brother, Mark Luey, of Asheville, North Carolina.
Marcheta graduated from Logansport High school in Logansport, Indiana. She attended Indiana University and graduated from Catawba College in Salisbury with an emphasis in information technology and computer science.
She was a longtime employee of Food Lion in Salisbury. She loved challenges and problem-solving. Marcheta often organized employee trainings and had high standards for performance. Prior to her Food Lion experiences, she was employed in hotel management in Indianapolis, Indiana, and Charlotte, North Carolina.
Marcheta loved people and had a huge heart, as evidenced by her active participation in numerous charitable organizations in the Salisbury area. She will be remembered for her effervescent personality. She loved the beach, an excellent meal, and spending time with her many friends. She had a beautiful smile and met no strangers. Marcheta will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center Foundation/ Wallace Cancer Center at 130 Mocksville Ave., Salisbury, NC 28114.
