June Carroll McRae Metcalf was born June 20, 1930, in Tuleta, Texas, to the late Vesta Ellen (Rodgers) and Caldwell Lamar McRae, and died Sunday, December 4, 2022 in Cypress, Texas.

June's family moved from New London to the Humble Camp in Tomball in 1934. She graduated from Tomball High School in 1947. June earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Sam Houston State Teachers College in 1950, and a Masters in Elementary Education from the University of Houston in 1968.

She began her teaching career at Cypress Elementary in the Cypress-Fairbanks School District in 1950. She met her husband of 58 years, Roy Clinton Metcalf, Jr. during what was also his first year teaching at Cypress Elementary.

June returned with her new husband to Tomball where he spent seven years as principal of Tomball Elementary School. During their time in Tomball, June gave birth to their five children, taught another two years of school, and began a clothing store and beauty salon with her sister and sister-in-laws.

In 1960, the Metcalfs returned to the Cypress-Fairbanks school district where she taught and served in novel programs that were ground breaking areas of education. Schools where June taught included Bane, Post, Holbrook, and Carverdale. During her career she taught every elementary grade (first through fifth), and created the district's first deaf education program by pulling deaf students from the more general special education classes. She eventually moved into roles as a helping teacher for new teachers, and as a special education supervisor from 1974 until retirement in 1990. An elementary school was name after the Metcalfs in 1991.

She was an active volunteer at Jersey Village Baptist Church (now Champion Forest – Jersey Village). Her talents for art, music, and connecting with children were treasured by her church as she "taught" bed-baby Sunday School, illustrated Roy's "chalk talks," sang in the choir, traveled with mission teams to national and international locations, and served on many committees needed by a growing congregation.

From the Oil Patch Kids and Museum in Tomball to her mentoring role among teachers in Delta Kappa Gamma, June was a worker— always willing to take on a job that educated and entertained.

She competed in softball, basketball, and track and field as a young person, and 42, Bridge, Shanghai, and Joker as an adult. She also was a traveling mom when her children were participating in sports or band events whether within the Cypress-Fairbanks area or throughout the state where the Bobcats or Falcons were playing.

Survivors include sons Bob Metcalf and wife Barbara of Owensboro, Kentucky; Richard Metcalf and wife Kay of Montgomery, Texas; Ron Metcalf and wife Cathy of Jersey Village, Texas; daughter Carol Whatley of Jersey Village; grandchildren, Matt and wife Andrea Metcalf; Suzanne and husband Nick Kafer; Kandice and husband Glenn Cabets; Kourtney and husband Brandon Ray; Kendall Metcalf; Bryan Metcalf, Kara and husband Andrew Hazen, Jonathan Beeler, Marc Metcalf, Emma and husband Josh Henderson, and Clint Whatley; great-grandchildren Avery, Lillian, Max, Nathan, Nolan, Lucy, Kyle, Wyatt, Joseph, Noah, Rylie, Paisley, Christopher, Katelynn, Peter, Danielle, Olivia, Camille, and Ryan; sisters-in-law Martha Maglitto and Lavonia McRae; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
