Cora Durfey Burgess, 98, died December 5, 2022, at her home in Orem, Utah.
She was born December 14, 1923, at home in Bicknell, Utah, to Robert Franklin Durfey and Mary Louisa Ellett Durfey. She moved to Provo, Utah, in 1936, at the age of 13, where she later met and married Charles LaVern Burgess on November 15, 1941. They were later sealed in the Logan Utah Temple, August 2, 1961. She attended the Northridge 2nd Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since 1980, when she and Charles moved back to Orem from Covina, California.
She survived cancer two times, was a meat wrapper before her first cancer, and after moving back to Utah, she worked for the Alpine School District in school lunches until the age of 70 when she retired. She was an amazing mother of five children of which two were grandchildren she and Charles adopted.
She was preceded in death by her husband Charles L. Burgess; son, Charles Kenneth Burgess; daughter, Cora LaRay Burgess; and granddaughter, Rachael Louse Burgess.
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Burgess Powers; son, Calvin Lafe Burgess; adopted daughter, Cora Lee Burgess; adopted son, Calvin Troy Burgess; nine grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 31 great-great-grandchildren.
Family and friends may visit Thursday, December 15 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 North, Orem, and prior to services on Friday, December 16, 2022, from 11:45 to 12:45 p.m. at the Northridge 2nd Ward, 1780 North 165 East, Orem. Services will be held at the same location beginning at 1:00 pm.
Interment will be in the Orem City Cemetery, 1520 North 800 East, Orem
