The daughter of Thomas E. Garfield II and Lillian K. (Sanefski) Garfield, Doris was born July 7, 1938 in Elyria and was a 1956 graduate of Wellington High School. She married Julius Takacs on July 10, 1959.
Detailed and dependable, Doris worked for BASF (formerly Master Builders) in the purchasing department and as a supervisor. Even during her retirement she volunteered for the Butler Nutrition Program assisting in delivering food to those in need.
Doris enjoyed crocheting. She was a hard working "old fashioned" farm girl, and that mindset never stopped. Even into her 80's she could outwork those half her age. She grew a variety of vegetables and canned all that she harvested. Self sufficient, Doris was confident… some might even say she was a touch on the stubborn side. Doris was ornery. More than anything she was a loving mom, grandma and great grandma.
Doris is survived by her children, Beth (Rex) Southard of Bellville, Kathy (Dale) Fry of Bellville, and Julius "Jr." (Sharon) Takacs of Cleveland, Tennessee; 18 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and extended family.
Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Julius Takacs, significant other Earl Pay; siblings Dennis Garfield, Jean Harpole, and Thomas Garfield III.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 14, 2022 from 10am-11am in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home where funeral services will begin at 11 am. Pastor Charles Barnhill will speak. Private family burial will be held in Huntington Center Cemetery in Wellington.
