Sumner Bacon was born to Mollie and Jonathan Bacon in Auburn, Massachusetts. He moved to Fayetteville, Arkansas, about 1821. He was converted in 1825 and joined the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He joined the Texas army in 1836, and later returned to San Augustine County, where he lived until his death in 1844. Sumner Bacon is buried in Chapel Hill Cemetery.
