Jerry Leon Mitchell
1954 - 2022

Jerry Leon Mitchell was born October 21, 1954, to Leonard Gilbert and Lola Hardman Mitchell in Provo, Utah.

Jerry met the love of his life, Shirline Dixon, and the two were married in the Provo Utah Temple on June 7, 1974. Jerry and Shirline were blessed with three children: Wendy, Jami, and Jeramy. They also have nine grandchildren and three great-grandsons. Dad and Mom also adopted kids: Toby Peterson, Brian Larsen, Ginger Butterfield, and Aimee Wood. Those kids brought many more grandkids to the family. Dad and Mom love all of their kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids.

Jerry started working with his dad from a young age at the family landscaping business. He worked for the city of Provo until his retirement. He then worked and retired from Utah Valley Solid Waste District. He wasn't done working so he then went to work for Hadco/TM Crushing. Dad loved to run heavy equipment. He was just a kid with bigger toys.

Dad played softball on many city leagues, loved camping, and spoiled his kids and grandkids. Dad had an uncanny ability to make friends everywhere he went. He could always make people smile and laugh.

Jerry had wanted to join the military but due to scarlet fever as a child, he was not able to join. He loved and supported Jeramy joining the United States Army, Toby joining the Marine Corps, and Brian joining the Air Force. He was so proud of each one of them and their willingness to protect the country he loves.

After a 14-year battle with cancer, many remissions, and a strong desire to never give up, his body was tired. Mom decided it was time to have the love of her life back at her side. With his three children at his side, he left this Earth to join his ding-a-ling.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 19, 2022, at the Berg Drawing Room Chapel, 185 East Center Street, Provo, Utah. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:50 p.m. prior to services. Interment, Provo City Cemetery.
