One of the best known figures has been removed from the streets of Wagga by the death of Mr. Charles Newell, which took place in the Wagga District Hospital yesterday afternoon.
Newell, who had reached the age of 73 years, resident in Wagga district for about 40 years, following the occupation of a bricklayers labourer. He worked on a number of the buildings erected in Wagga up to about ten years ago, and amongst the workmen was noted for a fund of humor.
During the past few years he was engaged in odd jobs by the auctioneers. He retained his health until about a week ago when an attack of bronchitis necessitated his removal to the hospital. Whilst an inmate of the institution he has been regularly visited by his niece, Miss. Mary Sewell, of Broughton-street, Glebe, Sydney.
The funeral will leave the District Hospital this day at 1p.m. for the Wagga cemetery and all friends are invited to attend.
