Abigail Alaniz
Salinas - Abigail Quezada Alaniz, age 87, of Salinas, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on October 17, 2021 at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. Abigail was born on September 13, 1934 in Degollado, Jalisco, Mexico. On her arrival to Salinas in 1964, she worked in agricultural labor.
Abigail is survived by four of five children: Lourdes, Carmen, Felipe de Jesus and Sonia; 7 grandchildren: Israel, Raul, Hazel, Abril del Carmen, Felipe Eduardo, Carmin Guadalupe and Maria Fernanda; 4 great-grandchildren: Emmanuel, Benjamin, Olivia and Baby Estrada. She is also survived by her Son-in-laws: Raul Lizarraga, Raul Avalos, and Martin Alvarez and her Daughter-in-law Ma. Guadalupe Mendez.
She was preceded in death by her husband Melquiades Alaniz, her daughter Silvia and her parents Antonio and Juana.
Abby, as she was known to all her friends and loved ones, served with great devotion and enthusiasm at Saint Mary's, Sacred Heart, Christ the King, and Madonna Del Sasso parishes.
Her love for people and community led her to serve in many distinct areas. She visited inmates in jails, was a Catholic catechist where she prepared children for their first communion as well as a Eucharistic minister, where she visited and comforted the sick and the elderly. Abigail had a passion for cooking which led her to cook for the less fortunate.
Funeral services will be held at Healey Mortuary located at 405 N. Sanborn Rd in Salinas, CA. Viewing will be opened to all from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Sunday October 24th at Healey, a rosary will follow at 7:00 pm at Madonna Del Sasso. Mass will be held at Madonna Del Sasso on Monday October 25th at 10:00 am. The funeral service will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery 850 Abbott St Salinas, CA.
