Sara J. Parkos, age 82, current resident of Meadow View Assisted Living of Two Rivers, died unexpectedly Monday evening, January 2, 2023 at the Aurora Medical Center in Two Rivers.
Sara was born in Rice Lake, WI on November 24, 1940 to Joseph and Myrtle (Amans) Parkos, Sr. As a child, she attended a country school in Kewaunee County, and will be remembered for babysitting family members and neighborhood children in Algoma. In her younger years, she enjoyed traveling, taking tour bus trips, and loved to read. She was a member of the Two Rivers Senior Center where she enjoyed spending time volunteering, playing cards, crafts, dartball, Wii bowling or a game of bingo. Sara was also a longtime member of St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, and loved attending mass. Sara worked as a volunteer for more than 20 years at the Hamilton Memorial Home in Two Rivers. She earned respect volunteering more than 1,000 hours a year at the skilled nursing facility and in 1997 was recognized with the Region V Award of Merit for Voluntary Service from the Wisconsin Association of Homes and Services from Aging Inc. Over these years, Sara became a friend to many residents and staff members through her countless acts of kindness.
Sara treasured time with her beloved sister and best friend, Jeannette. Family and friends were a very important part of her life. When she decided to sit back to relax, Sara liked watching Packer games and Polka Polka Polka. And let's not forget, she enjoyed going out to eat.
She is survived by her beloved sister, Jeannette Thomas of Two Rivers; one brother, Dennis Parkos of Manitowoc; and special caregivers/niece, Julie and Lee Stadler of Two Rivers. She is further survived by four sisters-in-law: Darlene Parkos, Thelma Parkos, Charlene Parkos, and Nancy (Parkos) Duthey; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Myrtle Parkos, Sr.; her brothers, sisters, and in-laws: Betty (Lester) Anschutz, Jimmy (Loretta) Parkos, Doris (Ervin) Gillis, Don (Janet) Parkos, Stanley Parkos, Don Thomas, Rosemary (Dan) Meissner, Diane (Paul) Frenz, Joe Parkos, Jr., Eugene Parkos, Jerry Parkos; former sister-in-law, Janice Baumgartner Parkos-Heiser; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 7, 2023 at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, 3201 Mishicot Rd., Two Rivers. Rev. Richard Klingeisen will officiate at the Mass of Christian Burial, with private entombment to be held on Monday at the Knollwood Chapel Mausoleum, Hwy. 310, Manitowoc.
The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, Saturday morning from 9:00 until 10:45 a.m.
