Bridget was born in Donegal, Ireland, the daughter of Irish immigrants Margaret Gillespie and Cornelius "Neil" Carlin. The family emigrated to the United States. She married Christopher Hines in Philadelphia. They had three children: Maurice, Francis and Marie. Bridget died at the age of 37. Her husband died the following year in the Great Influenza epidemic of 1918. Her mother, Margaret Gillespie Carlin, raised the three children.
