William remarried on November 10, 1841 to Sarah Hicks. She was born in Georgia in 1820. They had 2 children - Calvin W. Carter (m. Elizabeth Davis) and Hannah Emeline (Carter) Keene.
Sarah died on February 6, 1896 in Owen County, Indiana, and is presumably buried with William.
