She first married James Sumner Jr. on Nov. 16, 1865. He was born on Dec. 15, 1843, the son of James Sumner and Nancy Adams.
Sarah and James had nine children. But while she was pregnant with their ninth child, James died of typhoid fever, in Oct. of 1879. Sarah raised those children by herself.
Fourteen years later, in 1894, she got remarried to Felix Combs. He had been married twice before.
Sarah and Felix were seen in the 1900 Census Report, living along Mason's Creek, in Perry County, with Sarah's son Elijah and his family. But by 1910, Sarah and Felix had moved to Knott County. They lived near Troublesome Creek and Felix preached at a local church. Felix died on April 9, 1912 of heart toruble.
