Anchorage resident Frieda Pichler, 89, died Aug. 6 at home. A graveside service was conducted at Angelus Memorial Park.
Mrs. Pichler was born Oct. 2, 1902, in Buena, Germany. She was married to Joseph Pichler in Germany in 1921 and immigrated to the United States in 1926. She became a U.S. citizen in 1931. The family moved to Anchorage in 1947, and from 1949 to 1958, they homesteaded in the Matanuska Valley. Mrs. Pichler was a member of the Mountain Beaver Homemakers Club and German Club of Anchorage. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, gardening and baking.
She is survived by her son, Norman, her daughter, Sonja Lawrence, both of Anchorage; her sister, Berti Thomas of Germany; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, in 1964. The family has designated memorials in Mrs. Pichler's name to the American Diabetes Association, 3101 Penland Parkway, Suite G-34, Anchorage 99508-1908. Arrangements were by Witzleben Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Sixth Avenue Chapel.
