Santa Cruz Sentinel, Nov. 25, 1890, p.3. The sad intelligence was telegraphed to Charles McKiernan, of San Jose, Sunday announcing the death of his oldest son, John J. McKiernan, at Puyallup, Washington. The deceased was 23 years old, and was stricken with typhoid fever about six weeks ago, which terminated fatally yesterday morning. The young man left San Jose last February and located in Washington four months ago, where he wan employed in a lumber yard until taken sick. His father, Charles McKiernan, left San Jose Sunday to bring the body home for burial."
