4529 Private A Pinder, 5th (Princess Charlotte of Wales's) Dragoon Guards. The regiment arrived in Natal from India before the war broke out. They fought in the battle of Elandslaagte on 21 Oct 1899 and at Lombard's Kop on 30 Oct 1900 (Lieutenant Norwood awarded the VC). They were in Ladysmith throughout the siege. During the recuperation period aftyer the relief of Ladysmith, Private Pincher fell ill and was evacuated to Durban where he died of dysentery on board the hospital ship HMHS Lismore Castle on 26 Mar 1900 aged 22 years.
