ASHWORTH, Mr. Ernest Bert "Ernie"Age 80 of Hartsville, TN, passed away unexpectedly on March 2, 2009 in Hartsville, TN. Ernie's love and life were country music, and he thrilled millions with his music and performances. Ernie lived his childhood dream when he was invited to join the Grand Ole Opry in March of 1964. Ernie earned numerous awards during his career, including Most Promising Male Artist, Pioneer Award, Living Legend Award, Country Music Outreach Award, Awards from BMI, Cashbox and Record World. His music continued to play and he was named most played independent artist in Europe in 1999. Ernie has been inducted into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame, the Texas Hall of Fame and the Alabama Country Music Hall of Fame. Ernie lost the love of his life, Bettye Rose in November of 2007. He was also preceded in death by grandson, Patrick Bradford and son-in-law, John Parker. He is survived by daughter, Rebecca Gail Parker, Ardmore, TN; 3 sons, John Michael (Pam) Ashworth, Smyrna, TN, Stephen Mark Ashworth, Hartsville, TN and Paul Wesley (Crystal) Ashworth, Hartsville, TN; 7 grandchildren, Rachel Bradford, Jared, Gracie, Elizabeth, Brandon, Nicholas and Dustin Ashworth; one brother, James (Carol) Ashworth, Gurley, AL; and his brothers and sisters from the Opry Family. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Anthony Funeral Home, at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 5, 2009 conducted by Bro. Greg Armstrong and Bro. Jonathan Martin. Honorary Pallbearers: Grand Ole Opry staff and members. Family will serve as Pallbearers. Entombment will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Woodlawn Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2009 and 10 a.m. until service time Thursday. Masonic service 8 p.m. Wednesday evening.
