Daughter of Phillip and Sophia (Roberts) Moore, she was born in Otsego Co., New York where she married Charles B. Seward about 1845. They had three children: Revile Moore, b. 1845, Julia b. 1849 and Eliza Jean b. 1852. They had moved to Rubicon, Dodge County, Wisconsin near her sister Sophia (Moore) Barney, and Julia's husband died.

She returned to Westford, Otsego County, New York and married Stephen S. Houghton before 1855. He had a daughter Rosina from a prior marriage. They move to Floyd County, Iowa where her widowed father Philip Moore, and other siblings are living. Stephen and Julia had a son Stephen Adalbert born about 1862.

She lives out the remainder of her life in Floyd Co., Iowa, and is believed to be buried in Oakwood Cemetery in an unmarked grave, probably near her second husband Stephen Houghton, who died the same year.
