Philip Moore was born in 1792 New Jersey. As a young boy he moved with his parents to Herkimer Co., New York. He married his first wife Sophia Roberts, daughter of George and Alice Roberts of Otsego Co., New York. Philip was both a farmer and a carpenter. They had seven children who were all born in Otsego Co., New York: Sophia A., Angeline, Orlando R., Julia A., Eliza Jane, Orville H., and Sarah M. After 1850 Philip moved with a number of his married children to Floyd Co., Iowa, where Sophia died in 1857. On Aug 10, 1858 Philip married Sarah Richardson.
