William J. Beckett, 71, formerly of Akron, died January 16. He was born in Parkersburg, W. Va. and worked in the Development and Engineering Division of the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company for 35 years. He moved to Crossville, Tenn. five years ago upon retirement. He was a member-of the First United Methodist Church there. He is survived by wife, Anna (nee McWhorter) Beckett; sons, Edward Wade, of Indianapolis and Cletus F. Wade, of Akron; daughters, Alice D. and Dorothy of Akron; sisters, Mrs. Edith (Lawrence) Shaffer, of Akron; 8 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild. Friends may call at the Schermesser Funeral Home, Monday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and until service time 1 p.m. Tuesday. Rev. Kim L. Anderson will officiate. Interment Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
