Arthur Barrat married Chilvers Petrocochino on March 2, 1892 in London, England. It appears that Arthur and Chilver's marriage didn't work out. On the 1901 UK census, Arthur is living with his parents and he emigrated to Canada by himself. Nothing more is known about this relationship.

On 31 March 1903, the SS Manitoba (built to carry 900 passengers) left Liverpool, England, carrying 1,972 passengers and sailed into Saint John, New Brunswick on 12 April 1903. A large group of passengers on this former Boer War troop carrier were bound for what is now Lloydminster on the Alberta/Saskatchewan border. They were led by Rev. Isaac Barr, and they became known as the Barr Colonists. Passenger 18618, A. B. Barratt[sic] was among the passengers.

Arthur 'Barry' Barrat took out a homestead in 1903 north or Lloydminster, Saskatchewan. In 1905, he returned to England when his father was ill. In September 1905 on his return to Canada, he met Ethelinda Askew, who was travelling to Toronto, Canada, they fell in love and she returned to the homestead with him. They never married because he left a wife in England.
