When the Family came over from Russia their name was Germansky. The family immigrated in 1893. By the 1910 census the name had changed to German. When Jacob went to California I'm sure their was the pressure not to be associated with 'The Germans' of the War Wars and he changed his name again to Germain.
He was a tailor.
