Lila Gazaleh Akel, 83, died peacefully in her sleep on February 9th, 2021. She was born on January 14th, 1938 in Ramallah, Palestine to Albert and Jalileh Gazaleh. She came to the United States as a child. She met her husband, Joe, in Jacksonville, Florida, and they married in June of 1957. After five years of marriage, the couple moved to Myrtle Beach in 1962. They established multiple restaurant businesses, most notably Akel's House of Pancakes in 1975, which they owned and operated until their retirement in 2001.

Lila was best known for her upbeat and outgoing personality, her love for her close friends and family, and her faith in Christ. She is pre-deceased by her parents and brother, Farah Gazaleh. She leaves behind her husband, Joe, her three children and their spouses, Fred and Lydia Akel, David and Robin Akel, Diane and Heath Platt, her seven grandchildren, Adam (Jenny), Lauren (Chandler), Benjamin, Joseph, Stuart, Ashley (Robert), and Mitchell, and her four great-grandchildren, Sayla, Owen, Holden and Colt.

Lila also leaves behind her brothers, Jed Gazaleh and Eddie Gazaleh, and her sister-in-law, Terez Gazaleh (Farah) as well as many cherished friends, nephews, nieces and cousins.

Due to the Covid- 19 pandemic, the family has elected to hold a private service. Interment will follow at Ocean Woods Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Lila's name to Trinity Church at 3000 North Kings Highway, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577.
