Phebe Austin passed away 21 November 2005 at the Discovery Care Center in Salmon, she was 94. Funeral services were held at the Salmon Valley Baptist church on 29 November 2005. She was born 19 September 1911 in Rockland, Idaho, the 7th of 12 children born to Alanson and Maudee Jane Adams. Her mother died when Phebe was 6, while giving birth to her sister Maudee. Her father went on and married Nancy, and their family continued to grow. They provided a home filled with love for their 22 children. Still living are Charles, Helen, Elvin, Carl and Paul. Phebe married George Joseph Austin in Bend, Oregon on 15 June 1930. She was 19 and he was 23. Their 1st child, a daughter, Shirley Elaine was born 26 November 1931. Five years later, a son, Georgie Dale was born, but at the age of 3 he became ill and passed away. Another daughter Clara Jane arrived 23 July 1941. Phebe Joann arrived 2 December 1944. In 1945 Phoebe and George and daughters moved to Salmon. During the next three decades, they purchased, worked and sold many acres of land in the Salmon Valley. At various times they owned Phebe's Market, Double A Western Wear and The Salmon River Lodge. They lived near the river on Highway 28 for 20 years. They turned their land into a park for mobile homes for those traveling through. They worked well together and traveled and spent quality time together, but family was always #1. They had 12 grandchildren, Doak, Kyle, Dan, Janet, Sandy, George, Bill, Tammy, Andy, Kevin, Diane and Fred. Phebe and George were also blessed to share in the births of three great-grandchildren, Mandy, David and Amy. After spending nearly 50 years together, George passed away 15 February 1979. Fern McIntire helped Phebe through some of the tough years of her life. More great-grandchildren came along, Jessica, Staycee, Kim, Scott, Shawn, Josh, Brandon, Phebe, Kayla, Blair, Heather, Glenn, Tammy Joann, Mattea, Nicholas, Hailey, Brittany, John, Julie, Jake, Ashley, Abraham, Shania, Erin, Aubrey, Austin, Colton and Dillon. J.D, Tamara Joann and Sara preceded her in death. She became the great-great grandmother of Tyler, Chance, Justice, Adison, Bridger, Jackie, Bo, Corben, Judah and Parker. She had a loving, sharing heart, was very independent, learned to put in an honest day's work and was blessed with a great sense of humor. Burial was in the Salmon Cemetery under the direction of Salmon River Funeral Chapel.
