Alice McNary, 94, died March 16, 2022, at Liberty Assisted Living Home in Avondale. She was born in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, on June 10, 1927, to Harriet Irene & Neil Howard Black. She had two brothers, Neil and Keith, and a stepsister, Marilyn.

She married William "Bill" Tibbetts and they made their home in Glenwood Springs and had three children, Caroline, Neil, and Verna.

She later married Chuck McNary and they continued to live in Glenwood until they retired. On a whim, they relocated to Ajo and bought a home here in December 1988. After her husband's death in April 1999, she continued to live in Ajo until she moved to Liberty Assisted Living Home in February 2021.

In Glenwood Springs, Mrs. McNary worked at the courthouse as an assistant to the magistrate. She worked as a sign maker and also managed an apartment building with her husband Chuck McNary and helped him run and manage a tool business. She took sewing jobs and baked pies for Marcela's in Ajo.

Her hobbies varied. "She was an avid quilter, rug maker, baker, and a great cook," wrote Pastor Kevin Hartley. "Alice could remodel a home, play the steel guitar, play a mean game of cribbage, and she could even fix a car... she really could do anything she set her mind to." Her quilts won prizes and she took her sewing machine and rug-making material with her to the assisted living home. She was a member of the Ajo Piecemakers.

Mrs. McNary joined Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church in 2011 and was an active member, serving on several committees and singing in the choir. "Alice loved the Lord and enjoyed being part of the congregation," said Pastor Hartley. She often called the pastor and his wife Oneida her kids.

She was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband Chuck McNary; by her daughters, Caroline and Verna; and by her grandson Taj.

She is survived by her son & daughter-in-law, Neil & Sara Tibbetts; by her grandsons & their wives, Ralph & Valerie Tibbetts and Bo & Becky Tibbetts; by her grandchildren Dallas Tibbetts, Aspen Wilson, Lauren Tibbetts, and Shane Cooper; and by her stepsister and her husband, Marilyn & Bill Lan.

Services to celebrate Alice McNary's life will be held at Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 2. A meal will be provided after the service.
