HICKORY Abigail "Abbie" Abernethy, 59, of Hickory, passed away on Thursday, February 24, 2011 at Lutheran Home Hickory West.
Born August 11, 1951 in Catawba County, she was the daughter of W.B. "Bill" Abernethy and Mary Lea Whisnant Abernethy.
Ms. Abernethy was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Hickory. She was a dedicated caregiver to her mother for many years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a cousin, Kermit Whisnant.
She is survived by her cousins: Carolyn Truitt of Vale, NC, Dawn Covington of Vale, NC, Alisa Truitt of Todd, NC, Greg Truitt of Vale, NC, Darnell Waters, Cynthia Lail, and J.R. Sigmon all of Hickory, NC, LaRae Campbell of Gastonia, NC, Andy Whisnant of Greensboro, NC, Sam Whisnant of Hickory, NC, and Aaron Whisnant of Albemarle, NC.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 27, 2011 at Bethany Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dan Duke officiating. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service from 2:30 - 3:00 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethany Lutheran Church, 1644 Main Ave. Dr., NW, Hickory, NC 28601 or Lutheran Home Hickory West, 1125 10th St., NW, Hickory, NC 28601.
