He is survived by his wife of 16 years Marsha Patterson, two children Delores Gutherie, Steve Ellis (Nancy), 8 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 8 great, great grandchildren.
Les was born April 15, 1933, in Hays, Kansas. He had a severe bout of polio right after high school graduation. Although he was affected with the effects of polio throughout his life, he was able to enjoy a full and rich life. He participated in many activities such as piloting airplanes, horseback riding, fishing, hunting, target practice, skeet, reloading ammunition, boating, participating in water sports with grandchildren, camping, flying model airplanes and teaching others.
He was a member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA); West Alabama Aero Modelers (WAAM), and the National Rifle Association (NRA)
Les was an excellent mechanic and owned a number of car repair shops when he lived in Kansas. He retired from Tamko after 23 years as a maintenance foreman.
He was predeceased by his parents, Jacob LLoyd Ellis and Elizabeth Aust Ellis, a daughter Elaine Ellis, five brothers: Harold, Francis, Ernest, LLoyd, and Larry Ellis, and a son-in-law Mike Gutherie.
In lieu of flowers a donation towards expenses or to your favorite charity would be appreciated.
He was first married to Ella Mae Cullum, the mother of his children. I have been unable to find her grave. Someone in Les's family needs to contact the manager of this memorial please. LBM
