Joseph Abney, Jr., 70, of 21 Flanagan St., a retired employee of the L&N Railroad Co., died at 2:15 P.M. Wednesday at the Clark Co. Hospital after a long illness. A native of Estill Co., Ky., he was a member of the Franklin Avenue Church of God & was the son of the late Joseph & Mary Tipton Abney Sr. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mary E. Dawes Abney; two sons, Joseph Abney, Winchester, Ky.; & Ishmael Abney, U.S. Air Force, Germany; five daughters, Mrs. May Tapp, Winchester, Ky.; Mrs. Dorothy Stamper, Fayette Co., Ky.; Mrs. Anita Whitaker, Douglas, Arizona; Mrs. Mary Richardson, Carlsbad, N.M.; & Mrs. Eunice Renfro, Pinnell, Florida.; a brother, Edgar Abney, Estill Co., Ky.; 3 sisters, Mrs. Rebecca Allen, Louisville, Ky.; Mrs. Belle Sheffield, Stanton, Ky.; & Mrs. Martha Holder, Clay City, Ky.; 16 grandchildren & two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 A.M. Saturday at the Scobee Funeral Home by the Rev. James Chamberlain. Burial will be in the Winchester Cemetery, Winchester, Clark Co., Ky. The body is at the funeral home where friends may call after 3 P.M. today.
