Mildred Pearl Lesch was born August 23, 1919 in Apache, Caddo County, Oklahoma; one of ten children born to the farm family of Emil and Rose (Stenger) Lesch. Her father was an emigrant from Germany and her mother was born in Missouri, moving to Oklahoma before Statehood.
Friends introduced her to salesman Robert R. Moodie, Sr. They were married on April 2, 1941 in Oklahoma City. The shared 59 years of marriage and were blessed with three children, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Mildred attended business school in Oklahoma City and Springfield, Missouri to become a Certified Professional Secretary. She was a business management analyst at the Oklahoma State Capitol and for General Motors, retiring in 1988. She was a whiz with a comptometer (mechanical calculator with eight or more columns of nine keys each) and taught comptometer school for three years.
Her world travels took her to Scotland, England, Germany, Canada, Ireland, Hawaii, Austria, Italy and Switzerland. Knitting, quilting, sewing and listening to books on tape were her hobbies. She walked every day for exercise. Her favor meal was desert, cherry pie with ice cream or lemon meringue pie. "How Great Thou Art" was her favorite song.
She was a very active member of the Westminister Presbyterian and St Stephen's Presbyterian Churches and the Central Oklahoma Quilters Guild. She won first place for her handmade quilts judged by national and international judges. She volunteered at church, made quilts for children experiencing homelessness and worked in the office of the Oklahoma Philharmonic Orchestra.
Mildred Pearl (Lesch) Moodie was inducted into the Centenarians of Oklahoma Hall of Fame having reached the age of 100 years and four months. At that time she shared these words of wisdom with us: "Practice honesty, high standards of integrity and follow the Golden Rule."
Mildred's centenarian file will be sent to the Oklahoma Historical Society in Oklahoma City to become a permanent part of Oklahoma History.
