Delanson Foster, Sr.

The second child of Thomas and Sally Meigs Foster, Delanson was born January 11, 1784, in Guilford, New Haven County, Connecticut. Delanson Foster married Harriet Noble on February 10, 1805 in Pompey, New York. According to the 1840 U.S. Census, his middle initial may have been "D…" Daniel Peter Peck ordered a monument for Delanson Foster from Mr. J. R. Blanchard. The monument is located in the old Warners Cemetery and reads as follows: "FOSTER DELANSON. Died July 1st, 1875. Aged 91 years, 5 months and 20 days."

After his first wife, Harriet Noble Foster, died leaving seven young children under the age of 18, Delanson Foster, Sr., married Mercy Russell Briggs, a widow. Mercy was born February 15, 1790, in Massachusetts. She brought five of her own children into the Foster family. Mercy Briggs Foster died February 24, 1875, at the age of 85 years. Mercy's epitaph is located on the Delanson Foster monument in the old Warners Cemetery and reads as follows, "MERCY BRIGGS, wife of Delanson Foster. Died February 24th, 1875. Aged 85 years and 9 days."
One of Mercy's children, Elizabeth, married Delanson's son, Leonard, her own stepbrother.
