OBITUARY
Mr. Francis Hearne
The death occurred with tragic suddenness on the 13th inst. of Mr. Francis Hearne, of Crookwell, at the age of 75 years.
The late Mr. Hearne was spending a day out in the country with Mr. Errol Pearman — he frequently went out with him on wood gathering excursions — and was apparently in good health, although he had, shortly before- his death, casually mentioned that he "had a touch of indigestion." A couple of minutes before he collapsed he had been conversing with Mr. Pearman and was, apparently, in the best of spirits.
Medical aid was summoned with all possible speed, but when the doctor arrived Mr. Hearne was beyond human aid.
Deceased was the eldest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Hearne, of "Salisbury," Blanket Flat. He was born at the Fish River.
For many years he was on the land at Breakfast Creek, and disposed of his property to Messrs. Ashton Bros.
All his life he was interested in mining and was associated with several mining ventures.
Of quiet and unassuming disposition he was esteemed by all who knew him.
The late Mr. Hearne lived in the district during the whole of his lifetime. Unlike his brothers he did not distinguish himself in sport, but devoted a lot of time and thought to politics. One son, Oliver, is conspicuous in the A.L.P..
Mrs. Hearne, who survives, was formerly a Miss Blackman. Four sons and three daughters also survive. Sons are Harold (R.A.A.F.), Archie (A.I.F.), Oliver (Orange) and Gladstone (Sydney). The daughters are Doris (Mrs. Roy Lang, Wombeyan), Margaret (Mrs. Bert Daley, Burrowa) and Jean (Mrs. Os. Marks, Sydney).
Surviving brothers and sisters are Messrs. James and Wal (Salisbury, Blanket Flat) and Donald (Crookwell), Mrs. J. McD. Marks (Crookwell).
The funeral took place on Friday, 14th inst., and was largely attended. The cortege left St. Bartholomew's Church, Crookwell (where a service was held) for the Crookwell Cemetery at 11 a.m. and the remains were laid to rest in the Church of England section of the cemetery.
Pall-bearers were Messrs. Wal. Hearne (brother), Roy Lang (son-in-law), Rawson Marks (nephew) and Ransom Offley.
The services at the church and at the graveside were conducted by Rev. Canon A. M. Nell.
Mortuary arrangements were carried out by Mr. T. E. Kennedy (Crookwell).
