Son of William & Emma "Amy" (Holloway) Martin of Bird Island Cove, later & now called Elliston. Birth and death years are approximate.

Father William is, once or twice, incorrectly referred to as Joseph, his brother's and father's name, instead of his own. Mother is typically referred to as Emma, but also as Amy which is a family name for Emma here and otherwise, and also as Ann, Mary Ann, or simply Mary, all erroneously or correctly regardless.

Grandfather Joseph apparently changed his surname from Bungy (often spelled Bungey, back in England, or spelled Bungay, over in Greenspond) to Martin, his mother's maiden name. He did so perhaps to winter over without permission, whether to evade officials as an actual smuggler or simply to smuggle himself here. Besides being married to our Arthur's grandmother, he was married before that into the Carpenter family, this wife dying young. There is record back in England of a Joseph Bungey also marrying there as well, so perhaps there was a Newfoundland-divorce involved too.

Death record for Arthur as father immediately perhaps preceded a late registration for a Cecil Martin, his son's name, page torn, details missing, even years, for deaths in Bunyan's Cove. A better contextual reading of this record is welcome.

Last record was in the 1945 census, mis-indexed sometimes as Morton or Mortin, with wife Annie, not to be confused with the like-aged Joseph Martin with his like-aged wife Annie there too. Annie was listed as a widow, on her death, in Mar 1949. There also seem to be death records for two different dates for Joseph Martins in Bunyan's Cove in 1947, and one for 1 Jan 1948 as well. Corrections, additional details, and family greetings, all are welcome.
