Elizabeth "Bettie" Embry Taylor, the daughter of Dalton Mason Embry and Elizabeth "Bettie" (Embry) Embry, was born April 29, 1851 in Butler County, Kentucky. She wa the wife of Joel Joseph Taylor, the son of Garragd Banks Taylor and Nancy Shearling.

At the time of the 1880 Census Joseph and Elizabeth were living in Renfrow, Butler County, Kentucky with their two oldest children, Collins P. and Magnolia S, who became the wife of James Owen Zachery. Children born after 1880 were: Jesse, Asa D. and Leonia Taylor, who became the wife of Charlie Johnson.

Bettie Taylor died at the age of 66 years and 7 months on November 29, 1917 in Grayson County, She was buried in the Caneyville Cemetery in Caneyville, Grayson County, Kentucky. Her husband joined her there 25 years later after his death on November 30, 1942. He was buried as Joseph J. Taylor and shares the same stone with his wife.
