* I am not sure if the above death date (Aug. 1862) is correct for this Hosea Bowman. This date was provided by Military, but this Hosea Bowman is showing up in later census than this death year; he and his wife were still living in the 1880 census. (there was another Hosea Bowman born about 1828, so possibly could have been a mixup of the two and dates, or perhaps, this Hosea Bowman, as this Memorial Page, did not serve in the Civil War?)

-Hosea Bowman was the son of Jonas and Elizabeth Bowman.

-He was the brother of Pvt. Alonzo Bowman and Pvt. Daniel Bowman.

Spouse: Hosea married Minerva Caroline Price (1833-1907) in about 1848. After his death, his wife Caroline Price Bowman lived with her son, Jonas Lafayette Bowman.

Children: Hosea Bowman only had one child, Jonas Lafayette Bowman (1861-1935).

Hosea was born in Alexander County, North Carolina. He was Christened in the Friendship Lutheran Church on 16 October 1852. He served as a private in the Confederate States of America 37th North Carolina Infantry

Siblings: Susan Bowman Lippard(1834-1901), who married Aaron Levi Lippard (1830-1904) and moved to Scott County, Arkansas; Polly Bowman (1836-1846); Hinchea Bowman (1838-1842); Eva Lavina Bowman Gobble (1839-1883), who married Jacob L. Goble (1845-1883) and moved to Scott County, Arkansas; Alonzo Bowman (1845-1863), who died at the Battle of Gettysburg; Martha Elizabeth Bowman White (1846-1934), who married Tilford J. White (1838-1923); Daniel Leander Bowman (1848-1940), who married Alice Mary "Polly" Simmons (1839-1938); Jonas Socrates Bowman (1850-1939), who married Harriet P. Miller (1851-1886); and Lewis Cephas Bowman (1853-1880), who married Amy Minerva White (1855-1880).

Notes: Hosea, Caroline, and Jonas Lafayette are mentioned in the 1905 pamphlet "Historical Sketches of Alexander County, North Carolina" (on page 103) authored by Rev. A.L. Crouse. Hosea's Certificate of Confirmation was passed down to his son Jonas Lafayette Bowman, who gave it to his son Charles Ralph Bowman. Hosea is also named as Jonas Lafayette's father in Jonas's marriage certificate. Hosea is mentioned in the 1950 U.S. Census in the household of Jonas and Elizabeth Bowman, along with Susan, Lavina, Alonzo, Martha, and Daniel.
