OTTO TAEUBNER was elected collector of taxes in February, 1897 on the Republican ticket. Mr. Taeubner was born in Weimer, Germany, Feb 19, 1847, and at the age of three years came with his parents to America. The family lived in Wilkesbarre for a short time, then moved to Jeffersonville, N. Y., and finally settled in Honesdale in 1857. The subject of this sketch entered the employ of W. W. Weston at an early age and in 1868 accepted the position of shipping clerk for the D. & H. C. Co. at the Erie coal pockets where he is still employed. Both Otto and his father, Ed. Taeubner, answered the call of their adopted country; the latter being drowned when the transport, General Lyon, was burned off the coast of South Carolina, March 31st, 1865. Otto served in Companies C, 24th, and B, 35th emergency militia. His mother and only brother, Albert, conduct a restaurant on Main street. Mr. Taeubner has been a member of Freedom lodge of Odd Fellows nearly a quarter of a century.
