Mary Shumway is the daughter of Walter and Amarillis (Upham) Shumway. Mary apparently died in Lake Ida, Minnesota. She married Derrick West on March 15, 1842 in Racine, Wisconsin. Mother of Alfred, Walter, Harriet, Yates, Derrick, Phebe and Dwight. The only reason I can think of as to why Derrick and Mary are buried at Beaver Cemetery is that their son Walter Thomas West lived in Beaver about the time of their death. But why not in Lake Ida, Minnesota? We may never know.
