F. W. Loppnow, 82, Succumbs at Elba
St. Charles, Minn - (Special to the Republican Herald)
Ferdinand W. Loppnow, 82, retired farmer, died at his home in Elba at 8:10 a.m. today after an illness of three months. Death was due to the infirmities of age and complications. Mr. Loppnow was born October 11, 1855 in Germany and came to the United States June 27, 1874. He had always resided in the vicinity of Elba. He married Caroline Mollert June 7, 1882. Survivors are his wife; four sons, Ervin, Elba; Fred and Edward, Minneapolis, and Jonathan, Plainview; one brother, Charles, Elba, and ten grandchildren. One son Everett died when an infant. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Lutheran church at Elba, the Rev. Theodore Schoewe officiating. Preliminary services will be conducted at the home at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Home Valley cemetery at Elba. C.E. Sasse, funeral director, is in charge. Pallbearers, greatnephews of Mr. Loppnow, will be Arnold Arthur and Fred M. Loppnow, Elba; Fred Mahlke, Winona, and Ervin and Elmer Zaude, St. Charles.

On a more personal note Grandpa Ferdinand was by all accounts a very kind and generous man. His granddaughter, Maxine Loppnow related several stories showing he had a good sense of humor and was loving.
