Elaine C. Schaal, age 81, of Appleton, died Sunday, July 10, 2011 at Province Terrace in Appleton. Elaine was born in Oconto Falls on January 12, 1930, to the late Edward and Mary (Konitzer) Gallas. On June 26, 1948, she was united in marriage to Francis "Joe" E. Schaal. The couple enjoyed 58 years together until his death in 2006. Elaine worked at Zwicker Knitting Mill, Reetz's Supper Club, and U.W. Fox Valley in Menasha. She enjoyed gardening and baking. Elaine was a member of the Fox Valley Retirees and St. John Catholic Church, Menasha.
She is survived by 2 sons: William (Patti) Schaal, FL, and Jeffrey (Joan) Schaal, Appleton; 3 daughters: Lynette (Jeffrey) Geurts, Chilton, Becky (Brent) Wisner, Black Creek, and Betsy (Anthony) Vanden Acker, Hortonville; 11 grandchildren: Bryan (Rowan) Schaal, Niagra, Michelle (Brian) Zoromski, Combined Locks, Michael (Fiance Cathy) Paque, NY, Jessica (Jason) Syring, Appleton, Jeremy (Missy) Polar, New Holstein, Reid (Penney) Geurts, Appleton, Tammy Geurts, Green Bay, Sara (Craig) Wachtendonk, Black Creek, Stacy (Eric) Prodell, Black Creek, Steffanie Wisner, Black Creek, and Eric Vanden Acker, Hortonville; 10 great grandchildren. She is further survived by 3 sisters: Geraldine Gagnon, DePere, Evelyn Delveaux, Oconto Falls, and Joanne Spice, Oconto Falls; a brother, Edward (Patti) Gallas, Oconto Falls; sister in law, Delores Gallas, Suring; and many nieces, nephews, sisters in law, and brothers in law.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Joe, grandson Chad, a brother George Gallas, and 4 brothers in law: Floyd, Bernard, Wally, and Clyde.
A Memorial Service will take place at 11 am on Tuesday, July 19, at St. John Catholic Church, 516 DePere St., Menasha, with Father Paul Paider officiating. Friends may visit directly at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 am until the time of service. Entombment will take place at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Province Terrace Villas, especially to Roxanne and her staff for the compassionate care shown to Elaine.
